ready for the sun!

summer is here!! well, at least summer vacation is! it's still in the 30's and 40's up north here. so, to say that i am excited for some warm weather and sunshine would probably be the understatement of the year. we'll be busy bouncing around this summer visiting family, visiting sea turtles, visiting our cabin by the river, and our cabin by the creek, as well as visiting some of my favorite musicians here... and here. yes, this summer is shaping up to be a great one! i'll try to stop in when i can, but posts will most definitely be few and far between.

i've casted on my summer project and in between the hustle and bustle of traveling i hope to squeeze in a few stitches here and there... if my wee little lovelies allow. i needed something petite to store in my tote that i will carry along side me wherever i go. so i choose a lace knit scarf....knit with 90% qiviut .  i am pretty sure it'll take me all summer to finish.

wishing you many sunny, happy, beautiful days ahead!
cheers to summer friends!

rhubarb coffee cake.

rhubarb arrived in our full circle farm box this week... and it was such a summer tease because our rhubarb still looks like this! it'll be months before we harvest any of our own tarty goodness.

i wanted a new awesome recipe for the 3 lonely stalks i had. so i searched around the web a bit and found this lovely cake.  it's from the blog arctic garden studio. my friend esther shared this blog with me the other day and i'm so glad she did. it has loads of awesome recipes and the author lives in alaska as well. it's always fun to find blogs that i can relate too! anyway, back to the cake. it's the big crumb rhubarb coffee cake, orginally from smitten kitchen. i added a hand full of blueberries to mine!
if you still have awhile to wait for some rhubarb...be sure to hang on to this recipe!
 it's delicous.

for mother's day.

the mother's in my life are both down to earth, practical, resourceful women. for mother's day i thought a burlap peg bag would suit them just right. i found the tutorial for the peg bags over at apartment therapy, who was featuring the new book reinvention: sewing with rescued materials. this book sounds right my alley and i can't wait to get my hands on it!

fish trap hat.

i received the lovely book Arctic Lace as a gift a few years back...i didn't really think i'd ever be able to knit anything from it. i'm not too much of a lace knitter to start off with and the patterns inside are beautiful and very detailed and daunting. but i saw this pattern as a i revisited the book the other day and thought i might be able to do this "easy" skill level. turns out... it really was easy...easy enough for me even. the pattern is suppose to remind you of the fish traps and grass fish bags the Yup'ik people once used.
the purple yarn is part of this skein... a qiviut, merino, cashmere, bamboo blend... and the brown is 90% qiviut.

a quick fix.

i found this little hoodie at a garage sale the other day.
it didn't have nearly enough character for my littlest lovely.

i added some.
