over the river...

and through the woods.

on christmas day...in a world covered with a thick blanket of fluffy white..we dressed the lovelies and all ventured out on our first sleigh ride.  we've been smothered in snow while visiting yayaa and papa.... we are literally 'walking in a winter wonderland'. very much as christmas should be.

sending you all warm wishes this holiday season!

these days...

are looking a little like this....
a bit of merrymaking of sorts:

it's snowy and blowy outside.
(the view out my craft room window).
so on these snowy and blowy days (which we seem to be having a lot of)
it's good to bake. i made these cookies the other day.
(except i couldn't find any candy cane kisses.. so i used hugs).
christmas countdown/advent calendar for the lovelies.
as a kid i always loved the countdown chain.. i used to get incredibly excited to tear off a link each day. the calendar is a bit more elaborate than that... each day the lovelies will open the little pocket and find a treat inside along with a fun family activity to do. for example, picnic dinner by the tree, make hot chocolate and read the polar express, bake christmas cookies, treasure hunt for a new christmas book. i whipped this up last minute out of toilet paper tubes.
gift preparations.
 owl making marathon
i love these guys.. especially this time of year... they are  perfect for the tree.

waffle hat.

i had every intention to wrap up this knit and check one christmas gift off the list....but i couldn't handle the suspense!  i was dying to see how it fit and looked on this head.... sooo instead of making a bit of progress on christmas this year.. i handed it over with great anticipation.
a perfect fit!
such satisfaction.
made from a qiviut/silk blend, doubled up for a thick, chunky, insanely soft feel.

he's been wearing it with the qiviut cowl i made him and at 25 below it's almost euphoric to bury your face and head in such a cozy fiber.

twists. ...and a winner!

i love when my mama makes these twist... especially when she comes to visit us. she said her mama used to make some similar too. they are delicious.. the best, right out of the oven. so soft and yummy! well, my mama hasn't made them in awhile and i was craving them.. so i decided to make some on my own for the first time.... and although they weren't as good as mom's (cause lets be honest..nothing is a good as mom's) they were still good and so worth sharing! my mom got her recipe from gumbo lily.
they are perfect for morning coffee with a friend!

mustard scarf.

in those sweet moments of a sleeping or nursing baby, i managed to make something. although it didn't turn out as chunky and cozy as i hoped, it's still quite lovely. it's the mustard scarf by jane richmond. i sure love that lady's style... and want to make her oatmeal pullover next! (just need to order me some yarn!)

apples from a friend.

a dear friend of mine sent me apples... from the apple tree in her yard....all the way down states in north dakota. such a fun package to receive in the mail! it made me so very happy. i even put them in a basket..and made it looked like i picked them!  since then i've been going nuts with apple baking. i made this dutch apple bread, muffins, pie, and more pie! man. how cool would it be to have an apple tree in your yard! the idea is so far fetched for me...it seems silly! but i'd love to pick apples some day..and put them in a pretty basket...and then go nuts with apple baking again!

YUM!
thank you hannah for such a delicious gift!
xo

p.s. if you want another delicious recipe for some apples... try this cake i made last apple season!
